Citizen Watches Co. Ltd., announced on Thursday March 24th, at the Baselworld 2011 watch convention, that it would be marketing a series of new timepieces in early fall. The Eco Wave line uses a conventional solar-powered quartz caliber, but is controlled by orbiting GPS satellites to accurately reflect the timezone the wearer is currently located in, thus eliminating the need to ever adjust the watch.
Several models were proposed, but the first shown at the convention was a black analogue chronometer watch on a black resin strap, with prominent green accents, designed to tie in with the debut of Appleseed XIII. The face of the watch is said to reflect the radial geography of Gaia City, capital of Olympus. Akin to the timepieces of Appleseed Ex Machina, the new series will feature a pair of the watches worn by key characters Deunan Knute and Briareos Hecatonchires.
Pricing was initially rumored at approximately $4,300 USD retail, but recent reports suggest a US retail price of about $3,800 while Asia seems to be retailing at approximately $3,500 USD. As a limited edition, there will only be 990 pieces released worldwide, although the distribution quantities have not been confirmed.
